AIMS:

This course is designed to provide seafarers, offshore personnel, drilling crew, and industrial workers with the essential knowledge and practical skills to recognize, prevent, and respond effectively to hazards associated with Hydrogen Sulphide (H₂S) gas exposure. The training focuses on safe working practices, detection methods, emergency response, use of protective equipment, and compliance with workplace safety procedures.

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the properties, characteristics, and hazards of Hydrogen Sulphide (H₂S) gas. 
  • Identify common sources and locations where H₂S may be present. 
  • Recognise the health effects of H₂S exposure at different concentration levels. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of H₂S detection methods, including traditional and modern detection systems. 
  • Apply preventive measures to minimise H₂S risk in the workplace. 
  • Understand the safe use, inspection, and limitations of respiratory protective equipment. 
  • Explain the function and operation of Cascade Management Systems (CMS), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and related safety equipment. 
  • Implement contingency planning and emergency response procedures for H₂S incidents. 
  • Interpret safety signs, markings, procedures, and documentation related to H₂S operations. 
  • Provide immediate first aid assistance to affected personnel. 
  • Understand employer and worker responsibilities in maintaining a safe working environment.
