REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY

Last Updated: 25 September 2026

1. General

This Refund & Cancellation Policy applies to courses, training programmes, assessments and other services purchased directly from Solent Maritime Academy Ltd.

Your statutory consumer rights are not affected by this policy.

Different cancellation arrangements may apply to specific courses or services where clearly stated before purchase.

2. Cancellation Before Course Commencement

Where a learner cancels a booking before the scheduled commencement of a course, any refund will be handled in accordance with the cancellation terms displayed at the time of booking.

Unless specific course terms state otherwise, we may offer:

  • a full refund where cancellation is made within the applicable cancellation period;
  • a partial refund where cancellation is made after that period but before the course commences; or
  • transfer to another available course date, subject to availability.

Any applicable administration, examination, registration or third-party fees that have already been incurred may be non-refundable where this has been clearly stated before booking.

3. Online and Digital Courses

For online courses or digital content, consumers may have a statutory cancellation right in certain circumstances.

However, where you request immediate access to digital content or an online course before the expiry of an applicable cancellation period, you may be required to expressly acknowledge that access begins immediately and that you may lose the applicable statutory cancellation right once the digital service/content has been fully supplied, where permitted by law.

Any such consent or acknowledgement will be obtained through the relevant booking process where required.

4. Live Training and Scheduled Courses

For classroom, instructor-led, virtual instructor-led or other scheduled training, cancellation terms may depend on the course and the date of cancellation.

Where a specific cancellation deadline, transfer fee or non-refundable deposit applies, this will be clearly communicated before payment.

If you fail to attend a scheduled course without prior notice, we may treat the booking as a non-attendance and the course fee may be non-refundable, subject to your statutory rights and any specific course terms.

5. Cancellation by Solent Maritime Academy

We reserve the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule a course where reasonably necessary, including because of insufficient enrolment, trainer availability, technical problems, regulatory changes, operational circumstances or events outside our reasonable control.

Where we cancel a course, we will normally offer one of the following, as appropriate:

  • transfer to another available course date;
  • credit towards another course; or
  • a refund of amounts paid for the affected service.

Our liability will remain subject to applicable law.

6. Refund Processing

Approved refunds will normally be made using the original payment method where reasonably possible.

We aim to process approved refunds promptly, although the time taken for funds to appear in an account may depend on the payment provider or financial institution.

7. Course Materials and Certificates

Where course materials, examinations, registration or certification services have already been supplied or completed, the relevant portion of the service may not be refundable where permitted by law.

A refund does not automatically entitle a learner to retain or continue using paid course materials or online course access.

8. Corporate and Group Bookings

Corporate, group and bespoke training bookings may be subject to separate quotation, contract or cancellation terms.

Where such terms have been agreed in writing, they will apply to the extent permitted by law.

9. How to Request a Refund or Cancellation

Requests should be sent by email at admin@solentmaritime.co.uk

Please include your name, booking/course reference, course name and reason for the request where relevant.

10. Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy is intended to remove or restrict any statutory rights you may have under applicable UK consumer or other legislation.
