AIMS:

The course aims to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), as amended, and to develop the practical competence required to conduct surveys, inspections, and ship certification in compliance with statutory and classification society requirements.

It equips participants with the technical understanding necessary to assess ship safety, life-saving appliances, fire protection systems, and regulatory compliance under SOLAS.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To understand the structure, scope, and application of the SOLAS Convention
  • To develop competence in conducting statutory surveys (initial, annual, intermediate, renewal)
  • To interpret SOLAS chapters and associated codes (LSA, FSS, ISM, ISPS)
  • To assess shipboard safety systems including fire protection and life-saving appliances
  • To ensure compliance with international safety regulations and flag state requirements
  • To enhance inspection, reporting, and certification skills
